Abstract

Background: it is important to obtain information about university teaching according to the student´s perceptions because it makes it possible to improve the quality of the institution and to guarantee the design and implementation of policies to reinforce the teaching performance. Objective: to characterize the satisfaction, motivation and quality of teaching as factors that influence the learning of the Clinical Pharmacology subject, according to student's opinions. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was developed at Faculty No. 1 of Santiago de Cuba University of Medical Sciences, during the academic year 2015-2016. Theoretical methods were used: analytic-synthetic, inductive-deductive, historical-logical and from abstract to concrete; and empirical ones: documentary analysis and a survey in questionnaire form to students to obtain accurate information. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and presented in graphs with absolute numbers and percentages. Results: adequate satisfaction and motivation expressed by students regarding the application of the knowledge received in Pharmacology clinical practice during hospital ward rounds, as well as the performance of their teachers were observed, but there are still difficulties with the infrastructure and joint evaluation of the subjects Clinical Pharmacology and Internal Medicine, which negatively affect learning, according to student's perception. Conclusions: adequate levels of satisfaction and motivation of the students towards the Clinical Pharmacology subject were identified as factors that influence their teaching-learning process.
