Abstract

LLOPIZ GUERRA, Karel. Anti-tobacco education in primary school children from university extension work. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.3, pp. 71-90. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background: anti-tobacco education from an early age has limitations, so it requires an improvement in its educational approach through the work of university extension. Objective: to assess the result of the application of an educational program carried out by the professorship "School, Health and Sexuality" of the "Marta Abreu" Central University of Las Villas, as part of the university extension activities, to transform knowledge and behaviors about anti-smoking education in primary school children. Methods: a pre-experimental study was carried out at the "América Latina" primary school of the North People´s Council, during the school year 2016-2017. Methods of the theoretical level were used: historical-logical, analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, systemic -Structural and modeling; and empirical ones: documentary analysis, observation and pedagogical pre-experiment. The analyzes were based on mathematical procedures of statistical level and the experts´ criteria for its application. Results: the applied educational program demonstrated its effectiveness when the favorable change was verified from a low level in the initial stage about the subject of smoking in the students in the pretest, to a high level in the final stage in the posttest. Conclusions: it contributed to the integration of knowledge and correct behaviors on the subject from the university extension work aimed at primary schoolchildren.
