Abstract

MENENDEZ PEREZ, Blasa Melba; PEREZ OBREGON, Blanca Rosa  and  BETANCOURT RODRIGUEZ, Iliana. Mother tongue curricular strategy for the Medicine career. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2023, vol.15, e2596.  Epub Aug 31, 2023. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background:

numerous studies indicate that in the training of medical professionals communication should be considered -together with knowledge, physical examination and problem solving- as one of the horizontal competencies to be achieved.

Objective:

to design a mother tongue curricular strategy for the Medicine career.

Methods:

a development research was carried out at the Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences from May to October 2022. The research was organized in three stages. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction; and empirical ones: documentary review, interviews and specialist criteria for the assessment of the designed product.

Results:

shortcomings were found in the development of students' language skills and in the preparation of teachers to consolidate these skills. The reviewed documents allowed determining the practical needs for the elaboration of the strategy, whose structure was made up of: introduction, general and specific objectives, premises for its application, development stages, methodological actions, suggestions and annexes.

Conclusions:

the strategy is characterized by its novelty, communicative interdisciplinary approach, and flexibility for its application. It was valued by the specialists as pertinent, inclusive and with a feasible and applicable methodological structure in any curricular context.
