ALVAREZ-RODRIGUEZ, Mairalina et al. Informational culture in university students training. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2023, vol.15, e2661.  Epub Nov 30, 2023. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background:

an indispensable element in professional training is the development of the ability to create learning and interaction strategies, consistent with the demands of the 21st century; In this sense, the achievement of an informational culture is a challenge to the knowledge society in contemporary universities.

Objective:

to diagnose the informational culture in students from the “Abel Santamaría Cuadrado” Municipal University Center (MUC) in Encrucijada, an affiliated center from the “Marta Abreu” Central University of Las Villas.

Methods:

a cross-sectional, exploratory, descriptive research was carried out during 2021-2022, which made up the initial phase of a more complex study. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive; empirical methods: observation, interview with teachers and questionnaire appied to students from the “Abel Santamaría Cuadrado” MUC, in Encrucijada. Analyzes were accompanied by mathematical processing and descriptive statistics forms.

Results:

the diagnosis that was carried out made possible to verify that although the students have an adequate perception of the information culture, they have not enough skills, with emphasis on the location and access to information based on knowledge of sources, formats and search strategies. Evaluation of information, as well as its organization and effective communication.

Conclusions:

strengths and weaknesses about the information culture of students from the “Abel Santamaría Cuadrado” MUC, in Encrucijada, were identified, and assessments about the necessary attention to this aspect, were made.
