Given this, the contributions of creativity must be a fundamental axis such as research processes. In this sense, this research work aims to establish the relationship between creativity and academic performance of the students of the Mechanical Metal Area of the Faculty of Technology at the National University of Education. Quantitative approach research of descriptive type with non-experimental correlational design is carried out. It was used The CREA creative intelligence test, a cognitive measure of creativity, applied to students in the area of mechanical metal. They comprise the specialties of mechanic production, metal constructions and metallurgy and jewelry. The results indicate that creativity correlates significantly with academic performance, and that creative intelligence correlates according to the gender of the students; hence the vital importance of fostering the development of creativity in our students, in order to obtain a good professional performance in the future.
