Developing a culture of innovation has become one of the most important challenges in Higher Education. In it lies the educational quality and the extension of a proactive and positive attitude of the entire university community, towards progress and improvement. However, achieving educational, pedagogical and didactic innovation as a common practice of teachers, first requires an approach and understanding of the scope of these and the factors that act as basic conditions for their realization. This paper presents an analysis of these aspects and is complemented by an empirical study that confirms the importance of preparation, communication, collaboration and organization to increase the participation of teachers in innovative processes.
