Abstract

MARTINEZ LOPEZ, Sandra  and  LOPEZ RODRIGUEZ DEL REY, María Magdalena. The training of the citizen. A historical challenge of education. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.3, pp. 370-381.  Epub June 02, 2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

Unveiling the sources that generate the conception of the formation of citizens throughout history implies focusing attention on the synergies that characterize the models of citizenship and the educational projection that each stage prescribes. This exercise, always necessary to understand the rationality of pedagogical decisions, recognizes the challenge implied by the claim to respond to the challenges of each time, from the training processes to the exercise of global citizenship. For this purpose, and attached to the method of systematization of the theoretical analyzes carried out by various authors, it is assumed that the foundation of any educational proposal should reveal the socio-educational transitions, which mark the configuration of citizenship models and consequently the requirements that condition the role that education has had and still has in its main challenge, the training of citizens. From this purpose, this article characterizes the moments in which the turns and continuities are marked in the development of citizenship and the positions that justify the objectives, contents and methods to train citizens who respond to each type of society. At the same time, it raises the orientation that currently justifies training for the exercise of world citizenship.

Keywords : Training; citizenship; world citizenship; education; history of education.
