Abstract

QUISHPE, Fernando Javier. Analysis and optimization in the production of cardboard packaging, using value stream mapping. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.3, pp. 536-542.  Epub June 02, 2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

This article analyzes the current production process of an Ecuadorian company dedicated to the production of cardboard containers in which it has been possible to detect some flaws. In this sense, an analysis and optimization proposal is presented in the cylindrical cardboard packaging manufacturing line, which allows meeting delivery times and improving the level of service. The data was obtained from the main source of the production process through direct observation and subsequently analyzed with a Value Stream Mapping as a diagnostic tool and as a proposal in the design of future optimization processes. Among the main findings, the bottlenecks that delay the process, the delivery times that affect the level of service due to a production deficit that is evident by the difference in the trakt time and the cycle time were identified. Also, it was possible to establish an intervention proposal through short-term solutions, predicting a reduction in waiting times by 100%, without this implying an optimization of the system in the same proportion, since an increase in the 15% production.

Keywords : Optimization; improvement proposal; waiting time; Value Stream Mapping.
