Abstract

GOMEZ LOMBIDE, Micaela et al. The territorial experience of the Comunicación y Extensión Rural course at Universidad de la República, Uruguay. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.2, pp. 24-33.  Epub Apr 30, 2024. ISSN 2218-3620.

Rural Extension has a long history as a discipline of the Faculty of Agronomy of the "Universidad de la República", in Uruguay. The case study of this work is the experience of the course "Comunicación y Extensión Rural", which has been taking place since 2012 involving students both from Communication and of Agronomic Engineering careers. The pedagogical proposal integrates the three university functions (teaching, research, extension) into one single teaching core, embracing the territorial focus and the interdisciplinary perspective as a model for approaching social reality. The evaluative research analyzes the course's pedagogical proposal (2021 and 2022 editions), and the application of the methodologies and participatory tools used (critical workshop, diagnoses with a territorial approach, social cartography and preparation of proposals for rural development projects). In dialogue with inhabitants of the rural municipality of Los Cerrillos (department of Canelones), the teaching-learning processes developed throughout the two editions of the course are discussed. The conclusions affirm the central role of the critical workshop in the pedagogical proposal and highlight the challenges of the dialogue between different knowledge and disciplines, generating possible synergies between institutions and rural actors.

Keywords : Territorial approach; knowledge dialogues; Pedagogical practices; Situated learning; Participatory action research.
