Abstract

ORTEGA PENA, Niubis et al. TECHNOLOGICAL PROPOSAL FOR TREATMENT OF WASTEWATER FROM THE INDUSTRIAL PLANT OF PRODUCTION OF PALMEX ACTIVE INGREDIENT. Rev. CENIC Cienc. Quím. [online]. 2023, vol.54, pp. 82-95.  Epub Sep 01, 2023. ISSN 2221-2442.

Within the investment process of the National Center for Scientific Research, the industrial production plant of the active ingredient Palmex is projected, indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. This plant will allow substituting imports and a significant contribution to the country's medicine table. In order to comply with the environmental requirements of the investment, the objective of this work was to characterize the wastewater from the production of this ingredient with a views, to proposing a technological treatment scheme for the industrial factory. These residues have oily characteristics, with variation in their composition and flow. The results indicated high concentrations of organic matter (14 950 mg COD L-1), fats and oils (263 mg L-1), electrical conductivity (8 251 µS cm-1) and total solids (6 268 mg L-1). Different conditions were evaluated, both at laboratory and bench level. Based on the results of the reduction efficiency of the environmental indicators obtained and the estimation of the balance of the contaminant load, the treatment scheme was proposed, which consists of the following organs: sieve-settler, homogenizer tank-1, fat trap - primary settler, compensation tank, homogenizer tank-2, ozonation system and septic tank-biological filter. This sequence guaranteed that the treated effluents complied with the discharge standard NC 27:2012, to the sewer system. The results constitute the basis of the Technical Task of the wastewater treatment plant of the industrial-scale production plant presented, as an investment requirement, for the application of the Environmental License to Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).
