Natural resources, predominantly plant, have been used since ancient times and up to the present day as a remedy to alleviate various health ailments. The development of knowledge and research have made it possible to identify the active principles of various natural resources with medical properties. A large volume of research is carried out worldwide in the search for solutions to various diseases. Some vegetables not only have medicinal properties, but also have nutritional properties. In this review present the most relevant data from studies carried out on 6 plant species: Physalis chenopodifolia Lam (Tomatillo), Enterolobium cyclocarpum (Parota), Acacia farnesiana (Huizache), Guazuma ulmifolia Lam (Guacima), Esenhardthya polystachya (Palo Azul), and Zea mays L. (Maize Creoles), widely used as food, traditional remedy or both, in which its nutritional content (proximal chemical), chemical composition (phytochemical), antioxidant and antimicrobial properties was evaluated, with the aim of contributing to the knowledge of these natural resources.
