Abstract

MAINE-CALZADO, Enaide et al. Electric potential, electric field, temperature and pH in tumors and surrounding healthy tissue generated by different shapes of electrode arrays. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.1, pp.104-118. ISSN 2224-5421.

Electrochemical therapyis used to control local of solid tumors. The aim of this paper is to show spatial distributions of the electric potential, electric field, temperature and pH generated by different shapes of electrode arrays to improve the geometrical description of electrode arrays. These physical quantities are calculated in a three-dimensional domain that represents the tumor surrounded of its healthy tissue. Numerical results demonstrate how the electric potential, electric field, temperature and pH spatial distributions depend strongly on the electrodes array geometry, electrode polarity and voltage applied to them. Additionally, it makes mention to toxic products from of electrochemical reactions induced by a direct current application. It is concluded that the integrated analysis of these variables permits to propose an adequate electrodes array for the tumor therapy.

Keywords : tumor; electrode arrays; electric field; temperature; pH.
