Abstract

LOPEZ-GONZALEZ, Lisbet Mailin et al. Anaerobic codigestion of the rice drying residue and pig manure in batch test. RTQ [online]. 2019, vol.39, n.2, pp. 286-300. ISSN 2224-6185.

ABSTRACT

The biogas production in Cuba has been addressed to the treatment of pig residues and wastewater generated from some industries, with the aim to reduce the pollutant load. However, other residues with a high potential to biogas production as the lignocellulosic has been scarcely studied. The aim of this work is to determine the methane yield and the kinetic of the anaerobic digestion process of the rice straw drying residue (RS) and the pig residue (RP). The experiment was carried out in 2 L reactors at batch regime to 38 ± 2 ºC. The substrates were tested in monodigestion and two blends of RS and RP. The highest experimental methane yield of 488,87 L CH4/kg SV was found for RP, but with the lowest methane production rate with a value of 40,98 L CH4/kg SV d. The codigestion of RS and RP had a synergetic effect for the mixture RS95:RP5, with an increase of 18 %, in comparison with the expected value by the individual contribution in the mixture.

Keywords : anaerobic digestion; biogas; pig residue; rice straw drying residue.
