Abstract

SOMEILLAN-IGLESIAS, Dennis et al. Methodology for the production and evaluation of the salts base of Cary-Blair Transport Medium. RTQ [online]. 2019, vol.39, n.2, pp. 355-375. ISSN 2224-6185.

A method designed for the development of Cary-Blair's transport culture medium for industrial production and the evaluation of an intermediate product is presented. A procedure was developed to identify the factors that cause the potential incompatibility of the salts that compose it. The intermediate product was made and the physicochemical, organoleptic and microbiological performance characteristics were evaluated. It was shown that the compatibility of sodium phosphate and calcium chloride is determined by the concentration, temperature, pH and order of the mixture. The product allowed the industrial production of the medium, complying with the ISO 9001: 2015 standard. The base of salts together with the rest of the ingredients in the formulation, achieves the ideal appearance for its commercialization and fulfills the requirements for the maintenance, conservation and transport of clinical samples.

Keywords : Culture medium; Cary-Blair; incompatibility; calcium phosphate.
