Abstract

ANGULO-PALMA, Hugo Javier et al. Reducción de menas lateríticas utilizando como aditivo mezclas de carbón bituminoso y petróleo. RTQ [online]. 2020, vol.40, n.1, pp.93-105. ISSN 2224-6185.

During the investigation, three additives were evaluated in the process of reduction of the Herreshoff type furnaces formed by mixtures of technological oil and bituminous coal, taking as reference the extractions of Ni and Co achieved by using 2,50 % technological oil as an additive and to bituminous coal at 5,00 %. The experiments were carried out on a laboratory scale, from a bottle furnace to reduce the laterite ore and a bank of reactors to leach the pulp formed by the reduced ore and the ammonia carbonate liquor. It was found that the mixture that guaranteed the highest Ni and Co extractions was the one that used 2,00 % bituminous coal and 1,25 % technological oil. From the study it was shown that it is possible to partially replace the technological oil used additive in the reduction furnaces by the additive mixture, saving around 15 524 957.77 USD / a due to price differences that exist between oil and coal bituminous.

Keywords : Additives in reduction ovens; oil and bituminous coal; nickel and cobalt extractions; economic savings.
