Abstract

Objective:

the research has as aim to define the conceptual and methodological framework of the indicators system for the marine-coastal ecosystems monitoring in northern Camagüey.

Methods:

the assumed methodological basis was the proposed by the Global Environment Outlook Project. Risk assessment and climate change adaptation approaches were integrated into the analysis carried out. The analytical - synthetic, modeling and systemic methods were used to define the conceptual and methodological framework that supports the indicators system proposed, the results validation were developed using expert judgment and measurement methods; as well as, the documentary review techniques and the workshops were the most appropriate framework for the consensus search.

Main results:

the conceptual and methodological framework of the indicators system for the marine-coastal ecosystems monitoring in northern Camagüey was obtained, aimed at clarifying the system objective, the adoption of the key concepts and premises for the topic, which constitutes an emerging challenge for the contemporary societies, the definition of its principles and the proposal of methodological tools as support for the construction of indicators and their relationships formalization.

Conclusions:

the conceptual and methodological framework let us recognized the significant and pertinent information of the indicators system and how to convert it into knowledge that supported the decision-making process aimed at contributing to the sustainability of the marine-coastal ecosystems of northern Camagüey in the face of the challenge of climate change.
