HERNANDEZ CONTRERAS, Nancy; BATISTA DELGADO, Adiela Neyda y DELGADO VARONA, Aleida Ofelia. Proposal of a management model for the photographic heritage of Cuban universities: an experience at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. Rev. cuba. inf. cienc. salud [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.4, pp. 474-490. ISSN 2307-2113.
The paper presents a proposal of a management model for the photographic heritage for the universities, based on management processes for photographic archives: organization, description, assessment, preservation and dissemination. The organization process makes use of semiotics as a tool for the analysis of photographic content. The result obtained was a methodology to read the signs included in photographs. In the description process, consultation instruments are proposed with the purpose of providing detailed information about documents, their context and the document system producing them: proposal for the application of Standard ISDIAH at background level at the photographic archive of the University of Havana and proposal for the application of Standard ISAD (G) at series and document unit level. As a result of the assessment process a methodology was obtained to assess photographs, as well as the transfer deadlines table. In the preservation process preventive measures were developed and implemented which ensure proper preservation of photographic materials to fulfill the social function of the University Archive. Finally, in the dissemination process a proposal is provided of a number of activities conducted by the archive to make its document stock available for social use. Application of the model in all units of the Medical Sciences University of Havana ensures consistency in the processes related to the treatment of photographs.
