Abstract
SANCHEZ H, Leonardo; VARGAS M, Luis; AGUERO R, Oscar and QUESADA Q, Yuliana. Methodological Approach for the Identification and Definition of Territories with Productive Potential for the Development of an Economic Development Zone (ZED) in Costa Rica: the Case of Puntarenas. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2017, vol.5, n.2, pp. 5-22. ISSN 2308-0132.
This study contributes with the theoretical and methodological debate regarding the criteria and factors to identifying and defining Economic Development Zones (EDZ). In this case, we analyze the potentialities that the Central county of the province of Puntarenas, located in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica, has as territory able to catalyze the development of an economic zone in the country. Even when this study is focused on Costa Rica, the methodological approach could be used in other Latin American countries, considering their own particularities and by using their own available data to identifying and defining territories with productive potential and locational advantages, from which they can develop EDZ.
Keywords : economic development zone; regional development; endogenous development; territorial competitive advantages.
