Abstract

JIMENEZ GUETHON, Reynaldo Miguel; FIGUEREDO HERNANDEZ, José Antonio  and  ALMAGUER GUERRERO, Marcelino Roberto. Cooperativism ‒ Some Notes on Social Responsibility and Solid Waste Management. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.3  Epub Dec 10, 2020. ISSN 2308-0132.

This paper aims to present the relationship and benefits that can exist between cooperativism, social responsibility and solid waste management, as a necessary alliance for the better functioning of cooperatives and environmental care. The concept of social responsibility is not utopian, but necessary in a modern and inclusive society. It is used by large global food companies to have an image of respect for the community and concern for the environment, often materialized in charitable foundations. However, these same companies are responsible for the management of many of the solid wastes that are dumped in the streets and communities on a daily basis, so social commitment is questionable.

Keywords : local development; cooperative businesses; recycling; urban waste.
