Abstract

BORRAS ATIENZAR, Francisco. Bank Financing for Private Entrepreneurship in Cuba. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.3  Epub Dec 10, 2020. ISSN 2308-0132.

Small and medium-sized privately owned businesses in Cuba have become an unavoidable part of its economic reality and their development is supported by the legal framework and public policies of the State. In this context, the Cuban banking system has strengthened its financial relations with this sector, evidenced by the emergence of a regulatory framework that supports the strengthening of these relations. However, there are still significant gaps. The Cuban banking system, despite its efforts, has not managed to consolidate itself as a strategic ally of entrepreneurs. The article shows the current progress and limitations, as well as proposals to improve banking policies for the development of financing for private entrepreneurs in Cuba.

Keywords : self-employment; Cuban economy; finance; microcredit.
