Abstract

TORRES PEREZ, Ricardo  and  FERNANDEZ ESTRADA, Oscar. The Private Sector in the New Cuban Economic Model. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.3  Epub Dec 10, 2020. ISSN 2308-0132.

The role of the private sector in the emerging Cuban economic model remains a matter of disagreement, with no general consensus in sight. This article proposes a series of arguments to justify the convenience of extending to this sector a more relevant role in the national economic context. These elements range from the general problems of planned economies to the specific conditions of the Cuban economy in the process of updating. This step would also favour the achievement of other objectives announced for this process.

Keywords : Cuban economy; central planning; economic reform; ownership structure.
