Abstract
NOVA GONZALEZ, Armando. Agroecological Agriculture, Food Security and Sovereignty. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.1 Epub Apr 01, 2022. ISSN 2308-0132.
Agroecology is a paradigm of agriculture, a viable alternative to conventional practices and Genetically Modified Organisms, these use technologies supported by the intensive use of specific agrochemicals, which further subordinate food sovereignty and lead to monoculture practices, which leads to non-rational use of natural resources, soil and water, and effects on the ecosystem. Agroecology adapts to different contexts, different productive economic scales, identifies them as a unit, which favors the sustainability of practices. Diversity constitutes one of its fundamental elements to maintain the ecological and socio-economic resilience of production systems. Agroecology is a scientific discipline as a social movement, generates economic benefits for rural communities and reinforces their cultural identity. Both relate the knowledge of science and traditional knowledge, to create food in a sustainable way.
