Abstract

Since ancient times, the arts have played an important role in the cultural world; they have not only become a social expression of our lives but also an educational vehicle for learning and empowering. This was proved by the experience gathered by the sociocultural project “CREARTE: to Grow with the Arts, an initiative that was founded in “Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca” University as a cultural extension project. After 2014, CREARTE became a community project, the purpose of which was to contribute through artistic workshops to the development of ethical and aesthetical values of children and teenagers from Pinar del Rio. The present article is precisely, about this community initiative, it’s educational and sociocultural conception, its practical approach and the main results it has had for the last 5 years; specifically, its impact during the times when COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the whole world, including Cuba.
