Journalism professional formation, as it has been depicted traditionally, needs to be updated to comply with the increasing demands of the global society, in times when the information has become ubiquitous and determinant in essential processes of our lives. The rapid evolution of the technologies, the emergence of new communicative agents and the profound modification of the dynamics of media production, entails the conception of a new model of professional for the 21st century-journalism. In this panel, that took place as part of the redesigning of a new version of the curricula for journalism studies in the School of Communications at the University of Havana, we discuss some of the routes that could lead to the much needed change
