Abstract

CHAPPI DOCURRO, Tania María. Mediation of the magazine Bohemia in controversies of the 40s of the 20th century. ARCIC [online]. 2022, vol.11, n.30, pp. 67-88.  Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 2411-9970.

According to academic studies and daily life itself, during the last decades there has been a decline in economic stability, credibility, authority and the mediating role of the mass media. Such a decline continues to sharpen. This article reflects on the matter and proposes to analyze those successful practices from previous stages that could shed light on today's challenges; as a case study, it examines parameters of the mediation exercised by the Cuban magazine Bohemia (one of the most respected in Latin America in the middle of the previous century), when intervening in public controversies. The author offers a theoretical conception that allows us to delve into the structural and functional elements of mediation.

Keywords : mass media; journalism; public controversy; media controversy; mediation.
