FERRIOL RODRIGUEZ, Marta Rosa; URBAY CEBALLO, Francisco  and  BENAVIDES FLEITES, Niurka. Laserpuncture in the treatment of the painful shoulder. Case report. Acta méd centro [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.2, pp. 243-249.  Epub June 30, 2020. ISSN 2709-7927.

Introduction:

what most people call shoulder is really a set of several joints that combine with tendons and muscles to allow a wide range of movement in the arm.

Case report:

the case of a 55-year-old male patient who came to the Department of Traditional and Natural Medicine with unbearable pain in the left shoulder and limited functional balance is reported. An X-ray showed calcifications in the tendon sheath of the supraspinatus muscle. It was decided to begin a therapy with a point infrared laser (laser therapy). At the end of the fifth session the pain had decreased in intensity and could move the shoulder and perform basic actions, he just had difficulty to move the hand to the back. After the tenth session he had no pain and regained mobility of the shoulder; it was decided to extend the treatment up to 12 sessions. In another X-ray, no calcifications were found.

Conclusions:

laserpuncture was a useful and well accepted therapeutic option in the treatment of painful shoulder due to the presence of calcifications.

Keywords : shoulder impingement syndrome; calcifications; laser therapy.
