MORALES MARTINEZ, Ignacio; YERA ALVAREZ, Osnielky and ECHAVARRIA FRAGA, Diego Rosendo. Endoscopic mucosal resection in the treatment of Barrett's Esophagus. Acta méd centro [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.4, pp. 588-601. Epub Dec 31, 2020. ISSN 2709-7927.
Introduction:
endoscopic mucosal resection is a useful technique in the treatment of dysplasia and carcinoma in situ associated with Barrett's oesophagus. It improves the quality of the diagnosis by the possibility of obtaining a larger sample of tissue for histological study, it allows to delimit the presence of lesion at the edges and the invasion to deep planes and favours decision making.
Objective:
to show different aspects related to endoscopic mucosal resection in order to improve the knowledge of the specialists and to improve its application.
Methods:
the search for the information was done through PubMed and Google Academic. We consulted, mainly, scientific journals of the last years contained in the Medline database, others of similar quality but not part of Medline and some theses.
Results:
gastroesophageal reflux disease is the main risk factor of Barretten's esophagus, and symptoms can go unnoticed.
Conclusions:
this technique is a fundamental tool in the early treatment of dysplastic changes, which are currently not very widespread, despite the fact that its technical requirements are simple.
Keywords : endoscopic mucosal resection; Barrett esophagus.
