Abstract

Introduction:

the Chagas disease receives a special attention in public health due to the importance of the chronicity that causes and the frequency of cases observed in the Mexican Republic, particularly in the State of Veracruz, located among the top three places in terms of cases at the national level.

Objective:

to determine the seroprevalence of Chagas disease in university students of health sciences.

Methods:

a descriptive and cross-sectional study in the period from August 2018 to February 2019. Informative talks were conducted on the importance of their participation in this study. Those who decided to participate voluntarily signed the informed consent and were summoned to carry out the phlebotomy; 205 sera were collected and analyzed by ELISA and chemiluminescence methods. A survey was administered in which sociodemographic data and identification of the vector were asked.

Results:

no reactivity was detected in the serum samples processed by both methods.

Conclusions:

no students reactive to Chagas disease were identified in the study population.
