Abstract

Introduction:

COVID-19 is a public health emergency due to the high morbidity and mortality that it causes in human beings; adolescents constitute a group of special vulnerability.

Objective:

to evaluate the development of educative actions aimed at preventing COVID-19 in adolescents in a rural community in the Municipality of Quemado de Güines, Villa Clara Province.

Methods:

an intervention study was carried out, learning necessities on the subject were identified and a structured questionnaire was applied before and after in 102 adolescents between 12 and 16 years of age. The sample was selected by feasibility in a non-probabilistic way by criteria. A group of educational actions based on the life skills model were designed and implemented in the study group based on the results of the before and after questionnaire. The results obtained were processed and calculated in percentages.

Results:

the greatest representation corresponded to children under 15 years of age and the level of basic secondary education and the variables investigated were modified by 90.2% (92).

Conclusions:

the application of the educative intervention had a favorable impact on the level of information of the adolescents and guaranteed tools for confronting COVID-19 in this highly vulnerable population group.
