From November 16th to 20th, 2015, the 5th International Congress of Tropical Animal Production was held in the Palacio de Convenciones de La Habana, Cuba, within the context of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Institute of Animal Science.

This event was divided into different workshops: grasses, forages and other plants of agricultural and livestock interest; obtaining and characterization of feeds and additives; improvement and conservation of zoogenetic resources; management, reproduction and feeding of bovine cattle; management, reproduction and feeding of ovine and caprine cattle (FOCAL); management, reproduction and feeding of non-ruminant species; animal health and welfare; biostatistics, informatics and econometrics and experiences on the application of agricultural and livestock technologies for local development.

In addition, the 10th Meeting of Editors from Scientific Journals was held during this time.

These workshops included conferences, round tables, and oral and poster presentations, with the participation of specialists, researchers, editors, professors, entrepreneurs, producers and people with national and international prestige. In addition, visits were performed to production units and research centers, and pre and post-congress courses were given.

This time, the Editorial Board of the Cuban Journal of Agricultural Science decided to publish a group of studies presented in this event, except review articles, from suggestions that came up from the different workshops. The objective of this decision was to publish this knowledge not only on the event memories but also increase the visibility of these studies.

We hope this volume to be useful for readers specialized in the different topics of the published papers. In addition, every criteria contained in those papers are not a responsibility of this publication.

It is our best wish that the information provided is useful and we expect your valuable opinions on this respect.
