The art market began linked to the modern art and to the marchand figure. The first decades of the 20th century saw the raise of the critic as the mediator between the legitimacy of the artwork and its market, and, nowadays the curator would have almost be seen as if he/she were replaced by the critic in this function. In the 21st century market is a critical element in the successful assessment of the artwork and its quality. The extra-artistic factors that condition the value of having a play or a creator. Nevertheless, the critical assessment is crucial for the understanding of the artwork as part of a cultural heritage.
