Abstract

FERNANDEZ BATISTA, FABIO. Marti's Liberalism Particularities. UH [online]. 2016, n.281, pp. 205-218. ISSN 0253-9276.

The present article is aimed at defining the breaking point between Martí's thought, 19th century Hispanic American liberal ideas, for, though José Martí's works can be inserted within the wide 19th century liberalism, certain issues evidencing disagreement of the Cuban illustrious personality as to such ideological trend are evident. The perception about the US, the critic towards the mimetic appropriation, the western civilizing paradigm, the promotion of the Latin American unit, and the subversion proposal of social structures of colonial origins, show that Martí was a very particular liberal.

Keywords : José Martí; liberal ideology; Latin America; rupture.
