The aim of this study is to develop a mathematical model for nonlinear optimization of well extractions in confined aquifers at a regional scale and steady state flow. AQÜIMPE is used as the simulation model in steady state mode. Simulation and optimization models are linked, which is accomplished by means of there sponse matrix approach. Finally, the optimization model is solved using the MATLAB function «quadprog». Results for a hypothetic aquifer show the optimum well extractions scheme in which pumping costs are minimized while demand and hydraulic head constrains are guaranteed as well.
