Abstract

MARTIN FLEITAS, Marisleydis; ALMARALES DIAZ, Danay  and  CORDOVA LOPEZ, Luis F.. Hydrodynamic and wave modeling of hurricanes Wilma 2005 and Gustav 2008. riha [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.3, pp. 52-66. ISSN 1680-0338.

Due to the negative effects of hurricanes on the Isle of Cuba such as: sea penetration, coastal flooding, beach erosion and damages suffered by homes and buildings it is necessary to implement numerical models with the objective of establishing flood risk maps and evaluate the effects produced by them. In this work, simulations are carried out with the ADCIRC and SWAN models, coupled in a first approximation, of the hurricanes Wilma 2005 and Gustav 2008 in their passage through the western part of the country, obtaining upwelling and wave values due to the breaking wave. The validation of the data of winds used and of simulated waves is made by comparing with data measured by the NOAA buoys.

Keywords : tide; numerical model; wave; wave set up; storm surge.
