Abstract
FALCON ALMEIDA, Yadira; CASADO HERNANDEZ, Imilla; MACIAS LLANES, María Elena and SANTANA GUERRA, Blanca Rosa. Social history of the Center of Immunology and Biological Products, a case study of science, technology, and societ. Rev Hum Med [online]. 2009, vol.9, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1727-8120.
This work supports both the foundation and the development of the Center of Immunology and Biological Products as dialectical processes of science institutionalization influenced by social conditions. Created to construct the center's history, the methodological proposal analyzes the specific character of the institutionalization process studied, in relation to dialectics, among the external conditions, and what happened within the institution. The center's foundation at the Medical University of Camagüey responded to strategic conditions of Cuba's policy and science. Its development depended on intrinsic potentials and contextual conditions. The theoretical-methodological approach brought about specificities in relation to other previously made histories of institutions. The pattern followed in the center's institutionalization became a scientific-technological achievement, as well. This case study is a contribution of the Cuban perspective of development, concerning the Social Studies of Science and Technology.
