Abstract

PAUL TACURI, Mauro  and  JACOME CALVACHE, Víctor. Solidarity Economic Principles: Analysis of their Practice in Two Service Cooperatives in Ecuador. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.3  Epub Dec 01, 2023. ISSN 2308-0132.

Non-financial cooperativism develops in a mixed economic system where the private-enterprise economy is hegemonic. Cooperative activities are carried out in a constant encounter between the principles of that hegemonic economy and the solidarity, mutual aid, cooperation, participatory democracy, among others principles that guide the popular and solidarity economy, in which cooperatives are located. In this framework, this article identifies and analyzes the solidarity economic principles practiced by two service cooperatives in Ecuador. Thus, the validity of principles that allow organizations to sustain themselves and prevent them from being diluted in the private-enterprise economy is evident. In addition, the way in which they are practiced and the difficulties in applying them are shown. The methodology used is a qualitative approach with a predominance of the ethnographic method and the application of interview and focus group techniques.

Keywords : cooperatives; service cooperative; popular and solidarity economy; popular and solidarity economic organizations; solidarity economic principles.
