Abstract

BLANCO, Carlos Eduardo. Scientific Research in Contemporary Venezuela and Colombia: A Brief Summary. UH [online]. 2021, n.291  Epub Jan 01, 2021. ISSN 0253-9276.

Scientific research in Latin American countries is a topic of high social importance. An existing problem in research is the scarcity of comprehensive academic references in recent history in Colombia and Venezuela. The present bibliographic essay, partly a review article and partly a historical synthesis, has as its central objective to identify and analyze emergent aspects in institutional scientific research for these two countries in recent decades. Using relevant sources, these aspects were addressed through a socio-historical perspective. The analysis showed from the second half of the 20th century both countries tended to share a similar trajectory of progress, but recently, in the new century, while Colombia advances, Venezuela regresses in the field of scientific activity.

Keywords : science; innovation; public policies.
