Abstract

AGRAMONTE DEL SOL, Alain. Ethical implications of the use of computer applications for nursing care management. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.3, pp. 199-209. ISSN 0864-0319.

Objectives: Approach computer ethics as a necessary component of contemporary nursing care, its ethical implications for the nursing professional, and the role of nurses in the implementation of computer applications in health services. Methods: A documentary study was conducted. Experts were consulted to collect their criteria on the subject. A reassessment was performed of the ethical aspects of information management, particularly confidentiality, integrity and accessibility, to be abided by when information and communications technology is incorporated into professional activity. Conclusions: Acceptance of nursing informatics as an emerging specialty in the field of health informatics requires awareness of and training for the professional challenges to be assumed by the nursing personnel in a conscious, creative manner. It is not enough to be aware of the new technological information to provide quality health care. An outstanding role is played by the ethical and relational components, which acquire a new connotation with the use of information technology.
