Abstract

ARENCIBIA JORGE, Ricardo; PEREZLEO SOLORZANO, Ligeya  and  ARAUJO RUIZ, Juan A. Los filtros metodológicos como herramientas eficaces para la búsqueda de evidencias clínicas. ACIMED [online]. 2004, vol.12, n.3, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1024-9435.

The search for scientifically solid and clinically useful medical literature has become a priority for every librarian in the health field. The development of evidence based medicine is a key factor. Medline database is the largest compilation of medical literature in the history of information services in this field and also one of the greatest sources of clinical evidences. Nevertheless, the relevant information retrieving in Medline as in any other database requires a well defined search strategy. In this sense, the so called methodological filters, a sort of preconfigurated search strategy, are excellent tools for clinicians and librarians as regards patient care. The main uses of these methodological filters are explained and defined, according to the electronic support of the database where they are applied. Their usefulness and scope are analyzed according to their proved effectiveness. Finally, it is stressed the importance of the research work carried out by information professionals for their development.

Keywords : methodological filters; search estrategies; clinical evidences.
