Introduction:

in 2004, Callista Roy designed a scale to measure the coping and adaptation process, which has been validated in different contexts. So far, no evidence has been found on the application and validation of this scale to primary caregivers in the Cuban context.

Objective:

to establish the construct validity of the Callista Roy's Coping and Adaptation Processing Scale in primary caregivers.

Methods:

a descriptive study was carried out at ‟ Chiqui Gómez Lubián” Polyclinic from January 2018 to June 2019. The study population consisted of health professionals as experts and primary caregivers of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who were seen in the multidisciplinary consultation of this polyclinic. The selection of the sample of primary caregivers was carried out by homogeneous sampling, and experts were selected based on criteria.

Results:

100% of the selected primary caregivers answered that they understood the 47 items; its internal consistency by Cronbach's alpha reached results greater than 0.9. The content validity reached a total scale index of 0.97.

Conclusions:

the construct validity of Callista Roy's Coping and Adaptation Processing Scale in primary caregivers was established; linguistic facial was evidenced from the understanding of the items, content according to Moriyama's criteria, and internal consistency by Cronbach's alpha.
