Abstract

The objective of the paper is to analyze the potentialities and insufficiencies in the development of cultural heritage tourism in the city of Santiago de Cuba. The information gathered for the work was the result of the analysis and synthesis of data obtained in tourism’s enterprises in the city. The empirical methods used in the research were direct observation and interviews to groups of experts. The paper evaluates the main contradiction in using cultural heritage as touristic resource, and the potentialities and insufficiencies in the development of tourism in Santiago de Cuba. As a final remark, the author states that the city of Santiago de Cuba has attractions that allow to place it at the top of national tourism. However, there are insufficiencies related to management, promotion, tourism policies, the misuse of cultural resources and the opportunities offered by the regional context.
