Abstract

ARTILES LOPEZ, Dora Maria  and  SANGABRIEL, Alejandra Samantha. Building vulnerabilty:: A rish for all. Arquitectura y Urbanismo [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.2, pp. 68-78. ISSN 1815-5898.

The ability to adapt to climate changes in ecosystems has special relevance today, because it is estimated that it can reduce the impacts of all types in order to reduce vulnerability. Vulnerability is socially constructed and therefore, is likely to change as a result of human decisions. So, flooding and its impacts are directly related to what society does or does not do to face them. The article shows the results of a research carried out in areas of San Antonio Tlaloxtoc Canyon, located in La Malinche system, in the state of Puebla, México. The aim is to demonstrate how the settlers built unsafe contexts that define and determine the magnitude of the effects of a natural hazard. The application of empirical methods and techniques such as interview and observation, identified factors that affect the construction of vulnerability in the area under study, with the objective of providing useful data for risk management. Hence the results constitute a valuable diagnostic material for risk assessment in order to get a less vulnerable area to climate change.

Keywords : social constwruction of risk; vulnerability.
