Abstract

The study was aimed at identifying and evaluating the environmental impacts of gypsum mechanized exploitation (Supper-Geso mine) and sand (Cubal river bed) in the municipality of Sumbe (Cuanza-Sul, Angola as a premise to elaborate an actions plan directed to the environmental management of these activities. The analysis of the environmental and productive information, represented by: (a) location of the mining concession, (b) characterization of the productive process, (c) surveys and interviews results, (d) assessment of environmental impacts and (e) actions for environmental management were included in the methodology used. The proposed methodology could be generalized to the rest of mechanized exploitation of construction materials in the territory.
