Abstract
BARRETO TORRELLA, Sarah and GONZALEZ ABAD, Arlette de la Caridad. Devising a fluid mechanics lab practice facility. trf [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.2, pp. 287-302. Epub May 01, 2023. ISSN 2077-2955.
Objective:
To present the conceptual design of a laboratory installation that allows the skills development of several subjects related to the Mechanical of Fluids discipline.
Methods:
Water and Sanitation higher technicians’ skills were reviewed to devise a simple and compact fluid mechanics lab practice facility by applying concepts of hydraulics, hydrometrys, hydraulic network in a heuristic way. It was mounted on the simulator EPANET and was operated by driving valves that allowed to section pipes in series, in parallel, hydraulics sectors and to determine its hydraulics parameters. The installation of flowmeters in different points of the networks and pressure gauges allows measurements to do calculations or verification of obtained results. The methodological design of laboratory practices was completed. The system construction and the obtaining hydraulic parameters of its sections were course papers in Basic Hydraulic discipline. The students show a significant higher level of skill development. Designed practices can be used to develop fluid flow skills in Chemical Engineering students or similar majors including this branch of science in the curriculum.
Results:
The facility was built, laboratory practices were designed, and course papers on various subjects has been developed.
Conclusion:
The resulting facility allows professional skill development in Mechanical of Fluids discipline.
