Abstract
ARIAS-GILART, Ramón et al. Effect of magnetic treatment on the rheological behavior of diesel. RTQ [online]. 2018, vol.38, n.2, pp. 412-427. ISSN 2224-6185.
In the present work the effect of the magnetic treatment on the rheological behavior of the diesel was determined experimentally. To treat the fuel, a magnetic conditioner with an average induction of 0,36 T. was used. An Anton Paar Physica MCR 301 rheometer was used to determine the rheological behavior of the diesel before and after the magnetic treatment. To define the rheological models, the flow curves were divided into two zones. The point of inflection in the velocity gradients in which the change of rheological behavior occurred in the diesel was 500 s -1 . Diesel samples before and after the magnetic treatment behave like Newtonian fluids in velocity gradients from 0 to 500 s -1 and the equations of the mathematical models of both samples are the same. From 500 to 1000 s -1 the samples behaved like Dilating fluids, the equation of the mathematical model of the magnetically treated diesel was different from that of untreated diesel. Magnetic treatment reduced the consistency index by 20 % and increased the flow rate of the diesel dilating model by 1,26 % from 500 to 1000 s -1 . This indicates that the non-Newtonian viscosity of the diesel, under the conditions of the atomization process (1000 s -1 ), decreased by 6,96 % with the applied magnetic treatment.
