Since the end of 2019, the world has been in crisis with respect to individual, social, financial and economic structures as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The work presents an approach to the treatment of the crisis in social communication based on an analysis of the scientific production present in the Web of Science database during the first half of 2020. In order to determine the traits that characterize social communication and covid-19 in scientific production, this descriptive study was approached from mixed perspectives to take advantage of the strengths of the quantitative and qualitative basis for obtaining a more complete picture of the phenomenon under investigation. Bibliometric indicators and visualization tools were used to support the analysis. Conclusions are provided that reveal current concerns related to crisis communication, risk communication and media education in covid times.
