A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on th formation of human resources in nursing in Pinar del Rio province from 1975 to 1995. Information was taken from the files of municipal, provincial nursing centers and the Medical School. The results showed that during this period, 5 318 nurses graduted from all the specialities, 569 of whom have passed post-basic courses and 696 are Bachelors in Nursing, thus the technical-scientific level of nurses and the quality of medical care have upgraded.
