Abstract

MONTOYA, A; RODRIGUEZ, H; MIRANDA, Ileana  and  RODRIGUEZ, Yaritza. Perception of the phytosanitary authorities on the control of Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) in the protected production of pepper. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.1, pp.60-64. ISSN 1010-2752.

In order to know the perception of the phytosanitary personnel regarding the control of the broad mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus Banks) in the protected production of pepper, a survey was applied in different agricultural productive poles in the country. General aspects related to the characteristics of the protected production of vegetables, main crops, pests and the measures for their control were examined. Special attention was given to the particularities of the pepper protected production, the problem of the broad mite in this agricultural system, the knowledge about the predatory mites and the need for training on this pest. Through the survey, it was known the phytosanitary status of 652 protected crop facilities, which embraced a surface of 51, 3 ha, representing 29% of the country capacity for this production system. The application of the survey allowed verifying that P. latus was the main phytosanitary problem in the protected production of pepper; it also made evident the lack of knowledge of the phytosanitary workers about the methodology in use for P. latus sampling, signalling and control, suggesting the training necessity for an appropriate application of the measures established.

Keywords : broad mite; protected production of vegetables; Capsicum annuum.
