Abstract

RIANO VALLE, Félix. Background of the well known Bernoulli equation. riha [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.1, pp. 71-84.  Epub Apr 01, 2020. ISSN 1680-0338.

The present article aims to divulge the background of what is known as Bernoulli's equation or theorem. The demonstration is studied, where Daniel Bernoulli establishes, in his treatise Hydrodynamica of 1738, the relationship between the pressure and the velocity of the flow of water in pipes. It offers the general characteristics of the context in which such event occurs, as a part of an important cultural and intellectual movement known as the Illustration, which takes place in Europe during the eighteenth century. It highlights the role played by the Scientific Academies in the cultural development of that time. Likewise, little-known aspects of the life and work of Daniel Bernoulli are discussed, particularly those related to his condition as an experimental physicist and professor.

Keywords : Bernoulli; experimental physics; theoretical physics; hydraulics; Illustration.
