Abstract

STEFANO, Edgar  and  CORDOVA LOPEZ, Luis F.. Storm surges study during coastal flooding events in the southwestern coast of Cuba. Ing. hidrául. ambient. [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.3, pp. 51-63.  Epub Oct 22, 2022. ISSN 2788-6050.

This paper presents a study of the upwelling of tropical cyclones Iván (2004) and Gustav (2008), both associated with coastal flooding in the area. The Delft3D-FLOW model was applied in order to determine its influence on the total sea surges that occurred. Graphs of sea elevation due to upwelling were obtained at La Coloma, Playa Bailen, Cabo de San Antonio, Playa Bibijagua and Carapachibey. In the absence of measured data, it was validated by comparing the results with previous studies and modeling in another area, with the presence of sea level measurement stations, but applying the same methodology. Finally, it was concluded that the application of the model under the methodology used correctly described the phenomenon.

Keywords : hydrometeorological events; hurricanes; storm surge; coastal modeling.
